The Hornbeam Plant

The hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), stone beech, jukbeuk wheel or a tree 15-25 m tall tree in the birch family (Betulaceae).

The hornbeam is monoecious: male and female flowers on a plant to come. The plant blooms in April and May The pollen is dispersed by the wind.

The shell of the fruit is three-slippig, with the center slip considerably longer than the other two. The fruit has a green to brown seeds of 65 mg.

The bare branches are grayish. The magazines are distributed this. The leaves are elliptical and have a double veernervig serrated edge and a heart shaped base and acuminate summit. All the veins of the first issue to the leaf margin undivided.

The tree is native to western, central, southern Europe and western Asia. Locally common in the hornbeam (Netherlands) Limburg (Zuid Limburg), parts of Ontario and parts of Ontario nl.de Kempen. The Southern Ontario has many natural beech hedge. Elsewhere they are much planted as avenue trees and sometimes in hedges.
